The only setup needed is an A-frame and a tripod.

If you have available space, you can mount both the camera and A-frame into a permanent place so that no re-calibration is needed. If you do not have the space to create a permanent structure, the calibration procedure is quite simple and can be done on a slab by slab basis if needed. 

The use of backdrops and extra lighting equipment is completely optional. Companies that use these things are using them purely for presentation.
